Automated Systems
Shuttle-serviced bin storage installation

The installation is loaded by automatic stacker cranes with shuttle. These also supply the order picking locations and take the bins back to their storage position.

• optimum utilisation of the available storage volume
• constant availability of goods at the picking locations
• optimum ergonomic layout of the 'static' order picking locations

Features:
2 racking blocks, each 50 bays long and 10 levels high, form a service aisle for the fully automated stacker crane.
The first racking block is 4 trays and the second block is 7 trays deep. Each tray has a size of 600 x 400 mm, is handled long side on and can take 250 mm high loads.
The front part of the second racking block also integrates an order picking zone situated directly below the seven deep storage lanes.
A conveyor installed along this part of the aisle takes the outfed storage units resp. the storage units to be fed in again after order picking.
The installation is 4 500 mm high, 25 000 mm long and has a total storage capacity of 5 200 trays.
The racking construction is that of a drive-in racking for light-weight duties.
The stacker crane operates with a shuttle. Only connected by cable
to the stacker crane body, the shuttle drives into the lanes guided in
U-shaped rails which also serve as seat for the trays. For infeed and outfeed operations the shuttle lifts the trays from resp. deposits them onto their seat.

Benefits:

The realisation of the new warehouse concept permitted to drastically reduce set-up times and related costs for changing production lines on the automatic lathes. It is now possible to plan an even work load for all production facilities.
Orders can now be delivered immediately on call.
Special constructive features of the racking installation and the stacker crane allow to use the storage volume to a maximum.
